Home safe

Wow, the time when by fast since I ate that Poppa John's pizza.

The trip home was a bit bumpy, in the air and on the ground. Airport security was my downfall. Trying to be effieciant, I went with my dad to the top of the jetway to get him settled and planned on going back down to help my mom with our 3 suitcases. I get dad settled, and turn to head back down to help mom and I'm stopped by security! Sorry lady, you can't go back. My mom is at the end of the jetway yelling for me to come and help and I can't go help her! I let them know they were leaving someone to try and drag 3 suitcases up the jetway...less than pleasantly. The young man that pushes the wheelchairs, finally ran down to assist her. And the same thing happened at the MBS airport. I hadn't gone through the gate even and they still wouldn't let me go back to them. I asked security to deliver a message and hoped it would be delivered. Thankfully, it was.

My suitcase is still sitting by the door. Unpacked.

I have wool to play with people! 10 days without playing with wool. Of course, it was a bit too warm to even think about playing with wool, but I did think about it. If you have been following the blog, you noticed I was 1 day into vacation and I am tracking down LYSs and spinning stores without success.

There is much to tell about my trip out to LC Guy's farm to pick up the wool, what I bought while in TX and Zeilinger's finished and delivered my brown roving today! I will have to cover that all tomorrow. I have photos to share and haven't uploaded them to Flickr yet. I'm tired from working for the first time in 2 weeks. Yeah, I'm behind...that's how I roll.

Oh, I lost 7 lbs while on vacation! I am the person I used to hate! lol YES!

At the mall...

Oooh, the doorbell just rang, Papa John's is here! More later

Friday - hot? You bet!

Too much sun, heat, and water again for me. I am wiped out. I could hardly play volleyball and gave up after floundering in the deep end for 5 minutes. My tummy ached like I had swallowed too much pool water. (the thermometer says 119 at 5pm)

I did a "packing rehearsal" today. I failed! I can't close my suitcase! I have used both space bags too. Yikes. I may take another look at it tomorrow morning. I know there are some things I can leave. I have more clothes than I came with because of shopping and hand-me-downs from the Twisted One.

The packing rehearsal put to a stop any more shopping I may have wanted to do before I leave. I had planned on getting new tennis shoes, but I will get them when I return. Yes, Katie, I am coming back. :)

Day at the pool...mostly

Yep, it says 110!

A new fiber discovery...

I discovered a new fiber!

I am not sure if I mentioned it earlier or not, but there aren't any LYSs or spinning shops within a hour's drive. That was one of the first things I did; googled yarn and spinning shops.

When that was a wash, I thought it might be my internet searching skills. So I turned to Ravelry.

I did a search for locals and found droolsoveryarn and her etsy store. She had what I was looking for...roving! Not much, but it is a breed called Wensleydale (http://www.wensleydalesheep.org/images/history.htm). The staple length is 8-12 and up to 17 inches! I thought, "I gotta try that!". My second thought was that I might be able to use it to blend with the shorter lamb's wool I have been saving.

I emailed the breed info to LC Guy for his opinion. Turns out, he sees them at the auction he attends. This makes sense, because the breed is also know for being a meat breed. He mentioned the texture was coarse and thought I wouldn't like it. He may be correct, but the staple length fasinates me. If nothing else, I could use it for the Shepard's Rug I am working on...for the last year (since NML&WF of Sept. 2008).

The breed is on the endangered breed list. It is an old breed. Most of the purebreds are in the UK. I checked sale prices and they start at about $1500 in the US. The sheep LC Guy is seeing at the auction are mutts, I'm sure, and they are priced by the pound. The Wensleydale is probably used to pump up the flock for either meat or the to increase staple length. That is just my thinking, and lately, my brain has had a bit too much of this Houston heat!

Yesterday the actual temperature was 101 and the "feels like" was 108! As far as I am concerned, it is only the "feels like" that counts. Yesterday, I fell asleep on the floatie in the shady end of the pool and I was still sick from the heat. I wasn't able to go to b-ball practice as planned. I just laid in front of the fan! lol

Well, I am done with my coffee intake and I am going to head to the pool to join everyone else in the pool. Yeah, 11am and my parents have been in the pool for a hour already!

I am still negociating the Wensleydale roving and should know more later today or tomorrow. Stay tuned...lol

Lunch at Landry's

We went to Landry's for lunch on Tuesday. Steve, mom and dad wanted seafood. Elias, our waiter, took the photo. I ordered a Cobb Salad. It was the size of a sombrero!

After lunch, we hit the pool to cool down. I finished by book, Sail, by James Patterson, and passed it on to mom. I took a nap and then we had a mini movie marathon. I lost interest in "Code" with Morgan Freeman, and went upstairs to update the blog and check email before calling it a night.

I am secretly enjoying the heat, but it kicks my butt too.

Morning Routine

We have settled into a routine. It was immediately adopted and adhered to by all.

The girls get up first. Ali has to catch the bus for summer school at 6:30am. Jordan leaves about a hour later.
Usually, Grandma is up, at least when Jordan leaves, drinking coffee. She spends the morning sitting by the pool, reading and smoking.
Steve sleeps in the living room and he will join her.
Then Twisted Sister. The last ones up are Grandpa and I. He heads out to the pool deck to enjoy the outdoors before the heat becomes sufficating.
I take the remaining coffee out to the pool and top off Mom's coffee cup before making my own, much stronger, pot of coffee.
Then we all just take our time waking up.

Hot today...again

The Twisted One and I went to the movies to see Star Trek. There, for the first time, I met a bucket of popcorn I couldn't finish. It wasn't that good, but that doesn't stop me. I really enjoyed the movie and, like everyone else, loved the young Spock. I couldn't warm up to J.T. Kurt.

Afterwards, we went to Wal-mart to pick up some things. I made guacamole when we got home. I can not believe I went this long without it! It is one of my favorite things.

Then I went to the pool with a book for the rest of the afternoon and evening. I floated around peacefully and with complete oblivousness to the heat. Ahh. I pondered great things, like...what color to paint my toenails. I had to get out when I became dangerously comfortable and began dozing off.

This is Rocky. The family dog. He is thee slowest dog I have ever met. He walks slow, he moves slow, and I catch him staring at nothing for long periods of time. Mellow would be an understatement. But he's sweet and docile. It is kinda a nice contrast to my hyperactive, hyper-reacting Sadie. However, he will move a bit faster if he thinks you are trying to catch him....but only fast enough to stay ahead of you. But, in all honesty, if I had a fur coat in this heat, I don't think I would be moving anywhere fast either. I do miss my Sadie though. :(

Mom in the water?

Saturday...

A busy day today. Up at 7am and on the road by 8:30 to a basketball tournament in Katy. By 1:30 I had bleacher butt, however, it was my back that was breaking my concentration. We hurried home to a family get together at their home that started at 1:00.

I met around 28 members of S's family. I did okay with the names of the adults, but I had all the kids' names hopelessy mixed up. I visited more than I usually would and enjoyed myself immensely. I had been dreading the event initially, thinking I wouldn't remember all of their names and I didn't want to offend anyone. No worries! They were all very nice and understanding.

I ran down the battery on my camera at the b-ball game and it was charging during the party. So, no party photos, just lots of pictures of my photo-shy niece, Ali.

For the record. I was only sore in one place today after playing HORSE in the pool. My abs! I was surprised. Arms were only a little stiff. Maybe I will try again tomorrow.

Julie and Ron arrived later in the day and I visited with them also. We were able to catch up some and I showed Julie my iTouch. There may be an iTouch in her future. :) We are going to try and make plans later in the week.

We did some shopping. Swam in the pool all afternoon and played HORSE with Ali. Dad took over for me, but Ali beat both of us...barely. However, both dad and I are beat, as in exhausted.
Tonight, we are picking up a brisket for tomorrow's party. (I will take a photo if you want to see a brisket). There are going to be 40 people here for a Father's Day celebration.

Hopefully, I can "channel" Anne and somehow remember everyone's name and story the next day.

Last minute preparation

There were a few last minute things to take care of today, but I've had it. I have no more desire to do anymore. I want to save my remaining energy for tomorrow's day of travel. The sitter will just have to unload the dishwasher.

I managed to find time to take Sadie to COOR for a run. This makes her so ridiculously happy. She is a ball of energy and it has to come out. She chased chipmunks and killdeer. I noticed lately that she tires quicker than before. I think she is out of shape, rather than getting older. That is my fault. It was a long cold winter and I just couldn't or wouldn't walk her outside. I have asked Liz to walk her every day or take her to COOR to run. When I return, I will continue the routine.

I talked with my cousin, Julie, this evening. She is in Houston also. We are all going to get together this weekend at the Twisted's pool. She mentioned going to their property and I would love to do that too, but there is only so much time! As I think I said before, I will be happy to just hang out with family - and that is already a sure thing. :)

It will be hard for me to give blow by blow, detailed blog updates. I plan to take lots of photos. I will post some on the blog and the rest in Flickr. Watch the Flickr Photos gadget I have in the upper right hand corner. If you see a photo you want to see as a larger image, just click on it.

Well, bon voyage!

My bags are packed, I'm ready to go....

...I'm leaving on a jet plane.

This is the first time I have been on a plane in a long time. It was before 9/11 and before Sadie. Kristi and I incorporate the dogs into our vacations now and drive everywhere.

This will be the longest amount of time Sadie and I will have been separated before. My neighbor came over today for the run-through on Sadie care. She understands the anxiety of leaving your "baby" in the care of someone else. She leaves the care of her dog in my hands occasionally. She will call every night for an update and I understand. I will call her every night and she will understand too.

I have done multiple loads of laundry, packed a suitcase and a bag of knitting projects for the plane. I have my iTouch synched and ready to go. Some protein bars and a book, so I'm happy.

I will call tomorrow to confirm the flight, take care of a few last minute things, and go to bed early.

For the Ravelry crowd:
Wool Processing update: I received an email earlier in the week (this may be repeat info, if so sorry) from LC Guy. He has 80 lbs of assorted fleeces for me to pick up when I return. I will be busy this summer processing and dying wool and busy all winter spinning it. Oh darn! LOL

Beautiful Weekend!

The doctor appointment made me feel better. It appears I was suffering from something called serotonin syndrome. I wasn't losing my mind or headed for a nervous breakdown after all! YEAH! I was getting too much serotonin, the medication that works as my pain blocker. We dropped my dosage immediately and today, Sunday, I am feeling like a new gal.

Last night I slept well and I had a really nice nap in the hammock today. The weather has been awesome and life is good! Summer is coming!

My friend, Anne, stayed with me Thursday through Sunday. We had a nice time gabbing, relaxing, and hanging out at the gazebo. She brought her kayak and we took turns using it on the lake. It was so calm...and calming.

It was good to breathe the lake smells deeply into my lungs, look up through the red pines into the blue sky, and feel the cold sand and water on my feet again.

When I wasn't napping today, I was doing laundry and preparing to go to Houston. The Twisted One sent me an email on Friday and said it was 104 degrees with the heat index and her pool is 85 degrees. I can't wait to melt! I say that now, but watch my posts while I am there and see how I feel about the heat and humidity then!

I will tell you about the rest of the weekend with photos....

Before and After

Showing them together is dramatic!

Guess what I going to ask for next Christmas....?

Is it vacation yet?

Yesterday morning, fresh out of bed, no glasses and my big fuzzy robe on over my jammies, I was standing in the kitchen, impatiently waiting for the coffee. I slowly became aware of birds squawking frantically from my back yard. Bleary eyed, I recognized the dark shape of my cat, Mister, in the back yard. He was being bombarded by birds. I smiled, thinking they were messing with him. As I watched, a tiny flicker of white flashed on the ground and Mister batted at it. I had my feet in my flip flops and was out the door in seconds...in my robe, without my glasses, and flip flops slapping the bottoms of my feet. The birds started dive bombing me as I snatched up my cat and hurried back into the house. I had rescued a baby bird from being slapped around, but who knows what its fate eventually was.

After work, I needed to run some errands, one of them was drop off a package at work. Of course, I had Sadie. She loves to run around on the property. I began walking to the edge of the hill but Sadie was running around in the brush between buildings. Not something she usually does. As most of you know, Sadie has a bit of separation anxiety, and will usually follow me closely. I kept walking knowing she would follow eventually. But she didn't. I could here her crashing in the underbrush and finally, annoyed, I gave up and went to investigate.

The killdeers were making a big racket and I figured she was too close to their nest. Killdeers nest on the ground. They will make a lot of distracting racket and drag their wing on the ground, faking injury, to lure predators away from their nest. At the last minute, they will fly safely into the air. Naturally, I think they are leading Sadie on a merry chase.

Just like that morning, with Mister, I was a bit off base with my thinking. I was making my way to the car when Sadie stood up against a tree and looked upwards. Thinking that is where the killdeer went, I looked higher up in the branches for a brown bird with a bright white chest. Imagine my surprise when I spotted a gray cat precariously perched on a very short limb a few feet from Sadie's head! The cat was looking right at me as if to say "Do you mind getting this damn dog out of here?" So I complied. I ordered Sadie to "Leave it" and she did. I had been ordering her to "Come" for several minutes just moments before...then suddenly she is listening to me? A day full of surprises.

We piled in the car and headed to town to return the lawn mower. My timing was perfect! Mom was pulling her yummy Spanish rice out of the oven for dinner! I ate with Mom and Dad and got the leftover rice to take home too! Guess what I am having for dinner tonight?

Today, I called the airlines to see what they considered "special arrangements". Apparently, it means someone asked for them, but the airline doesn't care. Actually, I think I got an idiot the first time around. He made me log in to their website and walked me through a few things and kept trying to rush me off the phone. Teri don't do that. If you are in customer service or tech support and you try to rush me, I make your life miserable until I get bored or distracted. He wasn't answering my question, a simple question. It was "will this option ensure my father has a seat in the front with some leg room?" After I batted him around for awhile, like Mister with the baby bird, I released him and redialed, hoping to get someone who could give me what I wanted. lol I did. I mean, come on! They had a seat assigned for him in the back of the plane. Now he, and mom and I, have front seats AND gate to gate transportation on all the flights. Oh, and they do allow knitting needles in your carry on!

Usually, a call to a custom service representative would frustrate me to tears (remember the credit card calls?). This was painless. I am puzzled. Last week, I was one step away from a complete meltdown. Today, stupid people hardly bother me?

I am not sleeping well and I am tired all the time. Do I need a vacation? Or do I need a doctor's opinion? How about BOTH! I have a doctor appointment in the morning. I am thinking I need my medicine adjusted again (I'm in pain alot lately too, but that could be the weather). Could it be *shudder* menopause? NOOoooo. I am going to have a huge battery of bloodwork done. Because of the gastric bypass surgery, (the hugely successful, best thing I ever did for myself, no regrets surgery!), I need to have annual bloodwork. They have to monitor vitamin levels to make sure I am absorbing enough through diet. I have to be checked for anemia and tons of other stuff. It has been about 2 years since I had them and I received a letter in the mail from Hurley (the clinic that did the surgery) indicating I was overdue. So I will have all that tomorrow.

I am really looking forward to going to the Twisted One's on vacation. I am feeling out of sorts and I need to be in the cocoon of family. Hanging out, watching scrimmages, meeting S's huge family, and soaking in the heat and humidity sounds just like tranquility to me. Who knows? It could be just what the doctor orders!

Now, if I can just get home without being tasered, like this little 72 yr old lady....(read about it here)

Imagine the headline: "Teri Tasered in Texas" lmao

The week flew by...

As usual, the week flew by. Sadie met her babysitter, Liz, on Monday at knitting group. There were more people there than usual and she was a bit spazzy because of it. But once everyone settled down, so did she. Liz took her for a couple walks and gave her some cheese. By the end of the two hours, I looked over and Sadie was curled up on the couch between Liz and someone else, basking in all the attention.

Later in the week, she stopped by and I showed her around the house and the routine in general. It was a nice evening, in the 70's, so we sat on the back deck and enjoyed it.

Next week is my last week at COOR for the summer. Then I will increase my hours at the college and work for them four 8 hour days a week. Things have been so busy at both jobs lately that it kinda sneaked up on me.

I am horrified to admit, I had a little meltdown at the college this week. I am not sure why I over reacted to a mistake I made. My boss wasn't angry. I told her she would never need to yell at me, because I am usually harder on myself than she would ever be. I guess that is exactly what I did, beat myself up.

I borrowed Mom's electric mower this week and took on the back yard. It was getting really tall and ratty looking. The bugs were bad and I couldn't see to find and collect Sadie's "packages" with the pooper scooper. It looks much better now! I remembered to take a before picture after I made a few passes, but I haven't take the after photo yet. Maybe tomorow. It took me 2 days to complete the mowing. I didn't want to overdue it and have a flare. Instead, I ended up at the chiropractor. I had pain in my leg and wrist. Somehow, I put out the tibia in my leg and several bones in my wrist. I couldn't write, type, or knit without pain. It is MUCH better now.

Earlier in the week, I received an email from LC Guy indicating he was going to be shearing a small flock of 9 sheep this week and had negociated for the fleeces for me. Wow! Nine more fleeces! That is too many, in my opinion, to process in my washing machine. I would worry about the lanolin buiding up in the pipes. When I asked him for some ideas for processing it outside, he came up with some creative and inexpensive ones and I will try them some of them out when I get back from my much needed and anticipated vacation to Houston.

I had a monster headache this morning when I awoke and I could not get rid of it. I tried going back to bed, coffee, reflexology and finally I stood in the hot shower until all the hot water was gone. It receded, but my face felt like it was throbbing. I ended up going back to bed for several hours and awoke weak and still had the throbbing feeling. On the other hand, I had a wonderful dream about an old boyfriend that left me with a nice feeling in general.

My friend Barbara stopped by shortly after I got up. We visited for awhile and afterward, I ate dinner and plopped down on the couch.

What is the matter with me? I think it is stress or anxiety. Anyone have any other ideas? I am open to feedback.
