wool and drumcarders, and bears, oh my!

I had a meeting with my old boss on Friday and at one point I was telling him about my fiber fascination (obsession?). He chuckled and I asked him why? He thought it was an odd interest for me have in addition to my technology interests. I said no, that when I was off work, it was the best relaxation for me because it was the opposite.

Saturday, I did the usual run to Walmart and came home to work on wool on the deck. The weather has be spectacular! Friday and Saturday were in the 70's. Both days, I was out on the deck in shorts and t-shirt.

I finally got the drumcarder working today. I posted a photo in my new Fiber Prep Ravelry group and received tons of advice and some ID'ed it as a "Well-Made Co." drumcarder, made in Canada. All the feedback fired me up and I was able to order materials for making a belt. The company closed sometime around in the 70's and none of the orginal parts are available anymore. Now that I have it working, I hope to process even more wool. Right now, I am taking a break from it. My back and fingers are sore. Espeically my thumbs. They are getting little cracks and creases in them. The teeth on the drumcarder are vicious and the wood is so dry it is sucking up the oil that I keep putting on it as well as the oil on my hands.

Unfortunately, there is no way I can keep up with spinning all this wool with my drop spindle! I may have to move up my timeline for purchasing a spinning wheel. I was planning on waiting until the fall to buy one. Of course, I still could wait and just stockpile all the roving. Then I could still have the old leather chair redone.

My neighbor let me know the neighborhood bear is awake and up to his old tricks again. He has destoyed two of my neighbors' birdfeeders already. I am cutting back on Sadie's trips outside after dark. Mister is so obstinate about going outside at night, I have to let him out and hope he can take care of himself. He is a tough old guy and not afraid of much, so I am not very worried.

My dad is running for the KCC Board of Directors as a write in candidate. So if you are going to vote, see me about spelling the name correctly! Apparently, if it isn't spelled right, they will not count it. He has had some cards and flyers printed and we will be distributing them.

Barb came over this morning for coffee and a doggie play date. She helped me with the drumcarder while Sadie and Maisy ran in circles around the couch or chewed rawhides. Maisy is an adorable 4 month old black lab that is the same size as Sadie and makes her look positively petite! As a result, Sadie has been contentedly napping all day. I was tired also and took a hour and a half nap around 5 as well. It is overcast and cold today, so getting out on the deck to work isn't a priority.

I was reading previous posts and noticed I never updated my readers on the problem I had with raw emotions. After they increased my dosage all of that went away. I feel great and I am now calling it my "happy pill". Actually, I don't credit the meds entirely. I am enjoying my work at the college and coming home to bags of wool and I just found out more is on the way. What more could a tech/fiber fanatic ask for?!
