Art, Houseguests, a Wheel and...you guessed it...wool

Yeah, the brown fleece is very dirty work. I had to wash it 4 times! You are supposed to wash it until it doesn't smell like sheep anymore. The white fleece only took 2 washes. I am not sure if it is because there is more lanolin in the fleece, or if it was the environment they had been in since the last time they sheared. Maybe this was their first shearing! But there was a lot of teeny tiny bits of hay all the way down into the locks almost to the skin. It wasn't just "laying on top".

The stuff that I did in the last post should be completely dry now. It was sunny and windy yesterday, so that made a big difference in how fast it dried. I took the afternoon off and finished sorting the 2nd brown fleece. I didn't get as much off of it, but I am just going to combine it with the other one anyway. I am not going to wash it until after my houseguest goes home on Sunday. Kristi and Utah are coming tonight to stay for the weekend. Kristi has a conference in Gaylord tomorrow, so she is making a weekend of it. She is bringing her mom and dropping her off at her sister, Roni's.

I caved and bought a used spinning wheel on ebay 2 days ago. I will be able to spin all the fleece I have now and any that will come along afterwards. I wanted to wait until fall, but I have never had much willpower and patience when it comes to toys.

The evening plan is to go to the college art show. I don't think anyone has seen any of dad's artwork yet this semester, so we will all be surprised. All I remember saying is that he did another Jesus Christ. I loved his first attempt, and it is hanging at the local golf course.

I'm off to watch the news, for the first time all week. It has been sunny so I have been out on the deck when it is on. I better catch up on the flu pandemic. While I watch, I will put some wool through the drum carder. I will have lots to do when the spinning wheel arrives! Hmmm, that is IF I can put the thing together!
