I've been slapped around by life lately. To combat this, I have been trying to think about what I can be thankful for instead of allowing a series of events to define how I feel.
I was thankful for having to wait in the doctor's office today.
I had a doctor appointment in Traverse City for my throat/voice, it's still not 100%. While in the waiting room. I met 4 wonderful people from different northern areas and we talked about how much we love it here.
One was an older gentleman, and his wife, that mentioned where they lived. I was not familiar with Spider Lake and since I had the trusty iPhone with me, I pulled up Google Earth and found it. I went and sat next to him to show him. He touched the screen by mistake while talking and immediately "caught on" and began moving the image to show me where he lives! I let him go and helped him with zooming and we located the approximate area (I did not want to ask for his address). Later, I asked him if he was familiar with the gadget. He wasn't. :)
He and his wife and I chatted more and another gentlemen entered and began to chime in. We talked about the U.P., Higgins Lake, lake life, the economy, the storms in early March, living down below, and on and on.
The second gentleman told a story of his visit to a Grayling/Roscommon basketball game a few weeks ago. He stumbled on the bleachers coming back from the concession stand and dropped his drink on the floor. It was half time and someone cleaned it up and he returned to his seat. Sometime during the 3rd quarter, 4 young girls presented him with a drink. They had been sitting in front of him during the game and noticed when he stumbled and spilled his drink. He thought it was wonderful.
And so do I.
That small group in the doctor's office made a huge impression on me today. I was having such a good time, I didn't want the nurse to call me in and end it.
